Obadiah is the shortest Old Testament book, pronouncing doom on Edom (Israel’s neighbor) for its pride and violence against Judah. It assures Israel’s future triumph and restoration on the day of the Lord.

Date Written: Likely just after Jerusalem’s fall (circa 586 BCE).

Context: Written in response to Edom’s joy over Jerusalem’s destruction, Obadiah reassures Israelites of God’s justice and the eventual vindication of His people.
