Theme

Micah

Micah addresses both Israel and Judah in the 8th century BCE (contemporary with Isaiah). It pronounces judgment on corrupt leaders and injustice, but also foretells hope (including a ruler from Bethlehem) and God’s eventual restoration.

Author: Traditionally Micah the prophet.

Date Written: Mid-late 8th century BCE (before Assyria’s destruction of Samaria in 722 BCE).

Context: Prophesying from Judah’s small town, Micah warns of Assyrian invasion if people don’t repent (Mic 3–4). His mention of a future Messiah (Mic 5) later shaped messianic expectations.
